Cathance Lake's recreational potential is virtually endless and varied. Cathance Shores is located approximately 80 miles north
of Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island, the location of Acadia National Park. The Lake is 17 to 25 miles from the towns of Machias
and Calais, respectively, both of which offer shopping and sightseeing opportunities. We are also just 30 miles from Canada via
the Calais/St. Stephens border. For more information on activities in these areas, visit Area Photos or
Down East.
Cathance Lake Maine itself offers a wide range of recreational activities for the entire family throughout the entire year. In summer,
swimming, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, sailing, bird watching, fishing, hiking, ATVing, camping, picnicking,
roasting marshmallows on an open fire for "smores," shopping and sightseeing in the USA and Canada are popular pastimes.
In fall, the foliage of Cathance Lake and surrounding areas is magnificent, and it’s an ideal time to enjoy hiking, ATVing, and
walking the trails surrounding Cathance Shores.
Winter incorporates another set of activities, including snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating,
and even reading a good book in front of a roaring fire back at your camp. The snow-swept lake is a winter picture by itself -- well
worth hours of observation and contemplation.
Spring is also a delightful season at Cathance, and folks start early playing golf in Down East Maine. Excellent golf courses are available
in St. Andrews, and Campobello Canada, as well as in Calais, Roque Bluffs, and just south of Machias.
All activities are fun and exhilarating given the Lake Cathance backdrop. The photos displayed here capture just some of the recreational opportunities available to you at Cathance Shores, unique among Maine lake communities.
